Sania Mirza: I was born on November 15 1986 in Mumbai. Later on I moved to my native land (Hyderabad).I completed my 10th standard (SSC) in the first division with 63 per cent marks from NASR School Hyderabad. I am lucky to have loving dad Imran Mirza and understanding mom Nasima, I have a naughty younger sister Anam.

Tell me something about your Grand father as I have heard that he was also a sports man.
Sania: My grandfather Muhammad Zafar Mirza, played university-level cricket. He also played club cricket for Middlesex in England. But his first love was hockey. When did you start playing tennis who was your inspiration? Sania: At the age of six I started playing tennis. Actually one day my dad Imran Mirza and mom Nasima were watching a Steffi Graf and Conchita Martinez battle, dreamt make their daughter a Tennis star and so I started playing. My father, Imran Mirza coached me. Steffi Graff always used to be my inspiration and I want to be like her. Your daily routine? Sania: My day always starts with fajar prayers and recitation of Quran. I pray five times a day as it is as good as meditation Three hours of physical fitness training, in a day which includes all kinds of training, gym 3-4 times a week, some speed work, endurance and agility.
Your first event abroad and how many countries you have visited for tournaments?
Sania: My first ITF junior event abroad was in Lahore, Pakistan. So far I have visited 59 countries. Something about your likes and dislikes?Sania: I like to stay at home but now a day I don’t get chance, watching a movie and surfing the Net. I hate Apples and bananas and I don’t know why?
Something about your personal favourites like your favourite food, actor, actress, Music, Costumes?
Sania: I love briyani very much. I like style of Akshay (Kumar), Innocence of Raveena Tandon. I listen to Rap and Hindi old songs (mostly sung by Md. Rafi & Lata ji). I feel my self comfortable in Salwar- Kameez & Jeans. Your plans after retirement? Sania: I am not sure either I will start Interior Decoration or a tennis academy for upcoming talents or both.
You are the highest ranked female tennis player from India, holding 30th place in singles and 26th place in doubles; for your success you will thank…?
Sania: Sab say pehlay Allah miya, phir Abbu Ammi and then my coaches. Requirements to be your dream man? Sania: (laughing) He needs to be a nice person and not have any ego hassles. I need a guy who understands me and must be more than 5’9” in height. Your aim? Sania: To be in top 10 tennis woman professional player. Your idea about our Kashmir? Sania: Really a paradise on earth. I had planned to visit but my schedules… At last Message for young rather budding players? Sania: Do not worry about winning or losing.
